John Delauter Dies in Hospital

John A. Delauter died about eleven o'clock Wednesday night at the Wabash hospital, where he had been in a serious condition for several days following an operation. The body was brought to his home in North Manchester, arriving here about one o'clock this morning. Dr. Delauter had not been in good health for some time, but his condition suddenly became worse last week, and he was taken to the hospital. Sunday his condition became very serious, and it was recognized that his chances for recovery were few. Tuesday afternoon there was report here that he had passed away, many people hearing it before it could be stopped.
Mr. Delauter was born in Frederick county, Maryland, and would have been seventy years old next October. He has lived in Wabash County for about fifty years, coming here when little more than a boy. He was married to Miss Martha Hecathorn, daughter of Martin Hecathorn, and for a time they lived on the farm now occupied by Harry Keel. Later he bought the old Hecathorn place which he still owns, and on which they lived until about twenty years ago when they moved to North Manchester. Since coming to North Manchester he has been connected with the North Manchester Monument Company. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Delauter, three with the widow and mother surviving. They are Irvin Delauter of Wabash, Mrs. Elizabeth Hitchcock, of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Verl Weeks of this city. He has one brother, Frank, here and two brothers and sisters in Maryland, they being Mahlon and Charles Delauter and Mrs. Park Green and Mrs. Jacob Biser.
Definite funeral arrangements have not been made for Mr. Delauter but the funeral will probably be some time Sunday. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill cemetery west of North Manchester.
