Clyde D. and Beulah E. Shaffer Zolman, Rt. 4, Columbia City, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house on Oct. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Good News Baptist Church, Churubusco.
The couple were married on Nov. 6, 1927 by Rev. Edward Pugh in the Methodist Church in Churubusco and honeymooned in Kalamazoo in a Model T.
The couple have four children, Dean E. of Churubusco, Nickey L., of Fort Wayne, Terry L. of Albion, and Delara J. Miller, of Columbia City; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Mr. Zolman was a farmer and a factory worker, employeed the last 10 years before retiring at Blue Bell. Mrs. Zolman was a homemaker and Avon representative for 20 years. They have lived all of their married life in Smith Township.
Family and friends are invited to the reception. The couple request no gifts.

Barbara Lou Bonar, of Rt. 4, Columbia City was inadvertently omitted from the 60th anniversary announcement of her parents, Beulah and Clyde Zolman in the TRUTH last week. Barbara is one of five children.

Clyde D. Zolman

Clyde D. Zolman, 87, a resident on Jeffrey Court, died at 8:05 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, 1993, at Whitley County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 6, 1906, in Paw Paw, Mich., a son of Clem and Nora Zumbrun Zolman. His formative years were spent in the Columbia City and Churubusco communities. Mr. Zolman graduated from the Churubusco High School in 1925.
After completing his education, he was first employed in a factory in Kendallville.
On Nov. 6, 1927, he was united in marriage to Beulah E. Shaffer and they spent most of their married life on a farm in Smith Township.
In addition to farming, Mr. Zolman was employed at the Blue Bell Company in Columbia City for 10 years. In July of 1991, they purchased their present home in Columbia City.
The Zolmans attended the Blue River Church of God, the Good News Baptist Church and the Merriam Christian Chapel Church.
The surviving relatives include his wife, Beulah; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Barbara Lou) Bonar and Mrs. Larry (DeLara) Miller, both of Columbia CIty; three sons, Dean E. Zolman, of Churubusco, Nick L. Zolman, of Fort Wayne, and the Rev. Terry L. Zolman, of Merriam; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was Friday at Merriam Christian Chapel Church with Pastor Rex Bonar, grandson, and Pastor Terry L. Zolman, son of Mr. Zolman, officiating.
The burial was at Christian Chapel Cemetery.

Beulah E. Zolman, 93, of Columbia City, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, July 7 at The Oaks where she had been a resident since June 20, 1997.
Born on December 27, 1908 in Smith Township, Whitley County, a daughter of Homer and Lily (Fleck) Shaffer, her formative years were spent in Smith Township and a brief period in Kendallville.
On November 6, 1927, she was united in marriage to Clyde D. Zolman and they spent most of their married life on a farm in Smith Township. In July of 1991 they purchased a home in Columbia City where they resided until she entered the home. Mr. Zolman preceded her in death on September 14, 1993.
In addition to being a homemaker, she sold Avon Products for 21 years and also drove a school bus for a brief period.
She was a member of the Merriam Christian Chapel Church.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Barbara Lou (Donald) Bonar and DeLara (Larry) Miller both of Columbia City; three sons, Dean E. (Sharon) Zolman, Churubusco, Nick L. (Elaine) Zolman, Columbia City, Rev. Terry L. (Julie) Zolman, Albion; 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Olin Shaffer.
The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10 at Merriam Christian Chapel Church, Merriam, with the Rev. Rex Bonar, grandson of Mrs. Zolman and the Rev. Terry L. Zolman, son, officiating. Burial is at Christian Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City and one hour before service at the church Wednesday.
