Earnie P. Cripe, 82, a resident of Wolf Lake Nursing Home for four years, died at Whitley County Memorial Hospital May 2 at 9 p.m.
He was born Feb. 13, 1891, and in 1908 married Bertha Zolman who survives. He resided in the Columbia City area for 40 years and was a farmer.
Survivors in addition to his wife are seven sons, Earnie V. of Ligonier, Eugene and Edgar of Orland, Calif., Alfred and Charles of Jackson, Mich., Delbert of R. 7 Columbia City and Robert of Auburn; five daughters, Mrs. Opal Johnston and Mrs. Lucille Ross of Churubusco, Mrs. Elizabeth Boggs of Albion, Mrs. Dorothy Dodd of Constantine, Mich. and Mrs. Beverly Summers of Auburn; one brother, Abe Cripe of Boswell; 39 grandchildren, and 51 great-grandchildren. Four daughters and three grandsons preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted at Krider Funeral Home May 6 by the Rev. James V. Bennett, and burial was in Eel River Cemetery.

Bertha E. Cripe

Bertha E. Cripe, 86, former resident of the Columbia City area, died at 12:10 a.m. today at the Strawberry Village Nursing Home in Ligonier. She had been ill several years.
Born in Allen county on February 19, 1889, she was a daughter of Johnston and Mary Jane Claphan Zolman.
She spent her lifetime in the Whitley county area. In 1908 she was married to Earnie Cripe. He died in 1973.
Surviving are seven sons, Delbert of Columbia City, Charlie and Alfred of Jackson, Michigan, Robert of Auburn, Edgar and Eugene of Orland, California, and Earnie V. of Ligonier; five daughters, Mrs. Opal Johnston and Mrs. Lucille Ross of Churubusco, Mrs. Elizabeth Boggs of Albion, Mrs. Dorothy Dodd of Constantine, Michigan, and Mrs. Beverly Summers of Auburn.
There are 40 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. One sister, Mary Ann Hipshire of Churubusco and one brother Edgar Zolman of Churubusco are surviving.
Friends may call at the Krider-Bair Funeral Home in Churubusco from 7-9 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. on Friday and until services on Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. James Bennett will officiate and interment will be in Eel River cemetery.
